Think again if you think that kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding are not for you! These are activities accessible to everyone and at any age. Beginners or experts, you’ll be amazed.
Kayak (or canoe) outings offer the opportunity to approach animals very closely, to discover landscapes where others cannot go and finally allow you to contemplate nature from a totally different point of view. Stand-up paddle is a very recent activity here in South America. Lakes and rivers will be your playground and ecstasy will be there.
I always recommend a kayak or stand-up paddle outing, even if it’s just for a few hours, especially in Patagonia where there are many sites and varied options. Here are some examples of kayak and stand-up paddle outings that I offer, knowing that many others are possible and in other regions than those presented below.
Just Nature and You
The lakes of Patagonia by stand-up paddle
The lakes of the Bariloche and Villa la Angostura region are ideal for practicing an activity that’s still unusual here: the Stand-up paddle(?).
In summer, depending on the weather conditions, there will always be the possibility of rowing on a body of water sheltered from the wind. You’ll often be alone with your guide, far from tourists, in the middle of generous nature. You’ll be able to row on emerald-colored lakes, go down rivers with crystal-clear waters, in the middle of magnificent landscapes. All supervised by quality and passionate guides. Not to be missed!
Immersed in the lake region
Discover the gardens of Patagonia from your Canoe
We leave San Carlos de Bariloche for Villa La Angostura, where we embark at Playa Brava to navigate by kayak to the Brazo del Machete, and from the Río Machete to the Predio del Cayún. A short trek to Lake Gallardo and we take the kayak back to Predio de Cayún for Villa la Angostura, from where we leave for Bariloche at the end of the day.
This kayak navigation takes place on the northwest part of Lake Nahuel Huapi.
Favorite itineraries
Lake Mascardi by kayak
We leave from San Carlos de Bariloche, for a kayak trip on the north side of Lake Mascardi. This route is 25 km over 1 day, from the mouth of the Arroyo Fresco and Playa de los Leones. Then, the route continues to the campsite “Los Rápidos” from where we’ll turn around.
It is also possible to add a stopover at Isla Corazón to the itinerary before returning… You’re sure to love it! And many other possibilities for tailor-made itineraries, so don’t hesitate to contact me.
Discovery North of Chilean Patagonia
The Reloncaví Estuary by kayak
Puerto Varas has the particularity of being in the middle of lakes, mountains, but also very close to the sea. I suggest you a sea trip to discover the North of Chilean Patagonia by kayak, at the bottom of the Reloncaví estuary which will ensure you calm waters. Nestled at the foot of the Andes mountain range, the breathtaking landscapes will be there.
Views of the Osorno volcano of course, but also some surprising encounters with dolphins and sea lions. I guarantee that you’ll be enchanted by this day spent in the middle of unspoiled nature!
On the rivers of Patagonia
The “Río Limay” by kayak
We leave from San Carlos de Bariloche to the Limay River, and more precisely to the “Rincón Chico”. This place is idyllic to get into the water and gently begin this kayaking route.
The Limay is the ideal river to practice kayaking. The scenery is sumptuous and the landscapes seem unreal. It is truly a dream route and also ideal for an introduction to river canoeing…
Up close to the wildlife of the Atlantic coast
Peninsula Valdes by kayak
I offer you short kayak trips that can be done by everyone, to get closer to the fauna of the Atlantic coast, in the North of Argentinian Patagonia, mainly in the Valdes Peninsula. An unforgettable experience where the animals can be approached very closely.
The advantage of kayaking is that this “means of transport” does not produce any noise and therefore does not contaminate the environment. You can also get very close to these large males that are sea lions, who are ready to do anything to defend their females, or rub shoulders with southern right whales…
Cruising the icebergs in southern Chile
Torres del Paine Park by kayak
I propose you one of the most beautiful places in Chile to go kayaking. On the Serrano River “Río Serrano”, between lakes, glaciers, icebergs, you’ll “get in touch” with the elements… With superb views of the Paine towers.
It’s also possible to do a multi-day tour in the Torres del Paine National Park, exploring its southern part. A unique experience, achievable without necessarily having any experience.
